Elementary Institute of Science: Summer Camps 2019

Students explore a wide range of STEM content areas while building skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication.

Multi-day themed camp programs are offered during Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring, and Summer Breaks. Students rotate through four hands-on STEM lab activities daily. The first day of camp kicks off with a presentation by a guest STEM professional. The final day of camp includes a field trip. Limited scholarships are available. Summer Camp will be held weekly beginning June 17 until August 23. 

Weekly Camps: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Week 1: June 17 - 21
Theme: The Science of Coding 

Students will learn to code and develop a website to showcase what they learn in their STEM classes

Week 2: June 24 - 28
Theme: Creatures of the Deep

Students will learn about deep sea creatures and the science and engineering we need to study them.

Week 3: July 1 - 3
Theme: Explore Careers in STEM

Students will learn from STEM emerging professionals about careers and fieldwork. What are the jobs of scientists and engineers?

Week 4: July 8 - 12
Theme: Outdoor Explorers

Discover San Diego’s Biodiversity and learn how to protect our resources

Week 5: July 15 - 19
Theme: Green Engineers

Our future engineers will learn about sustainability and ways to keep the balance between our natural systems and infrastructure.

Week 6: July 22 - 26
Theme: Pollution Detectives

Our future scientists will learn to identify pollution sources and solutions using chemistry, ecology, geology, and more!

Week 7: July 29 - August 2
Theme: Reaching for the Stars 

Our future astronomers will learn about the moon, the sun, and the stars using science and art.

Week 8: August 5 - 9
Theme: Save Water Save Life

Where in the world is our drinking water? Where does San Diego’s water come from? Students will learn the importance of water conservation.


Week 9: August 12 - 16
Theme: The Science of Photography

Students will explore the use of chemistry, physics, and other sciences in all aspects of photography. They will also learn how photography can help scientists study changes in the environment.


Week 10: August 19 - 23
Theme: Climate Engineering a Better Tomorrow

Technology and the environment, what do they have in common? How can we reduce greenhouse gases and ocean acidification?

Technology Thanksgiving Camps at the Elementary Institute of Science

Looking for a quality experience for your kids during the Thanksgiving school break? The Elementary Institute of Science is offering 3-day technology camps for grades 2-8.

For 2nd & 3rd graders, 3-D printing will be the focus, while 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will try their hand at building and programming robots. Not to be outdone, 7th and 8th graders will learn to program drones to fly autonomously.

School may not be in session, but learning never takes a break and the fun never stops at EIS.
