Information Collection and Use
The Fleet Science Center, acting as the Central Project Office of the San Diego STEM Ecosystem, is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to anyone outside our organization. Your e-mail address is private and will remain that way.
In order to use certain features of our website or to add their name to our e-newsletter list, a user may be required to first complete a registration form. During registration a user is required to give their contact information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact the user about the services on our site for which they have expressed interest. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (such as age and gender) and unique identifiers (such as membership or promotional identification numbers), but it is encouraged so we can provide a more personalized experience on our site. If we have trouble processing a registration or listing, this contact information is used to get in touch with the user.
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. Once the user closes their browser, the cookie simply terminates. For instance, by setting a cookie on our site, the user would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. If a user rejects the cookie, they may still use our site. The only drawback to this is that the user will be limited in some areas of our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our site.
Internet Protocol Address
We collect an IP address from all visitors to our Site. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, administer our Site, analyze trends, track users' movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the site, and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
All information provided to the Fleet Science Center is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to us. We also protect account information by placing it on a secure portion of our Site that is only accessible by certain qualified employees of the Fleet Science Center. Unfortunately, however, no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information.
If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, we ask them for the friend's name and e-mail address. The Fleet Science Center will automatically send the friend a one-time e-mail inviting them to visit the site. The Fleet stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time e-mail.
Our Site contains links to other websites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another website for which the Fleet Science Center has no responsibility. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may be different than ours.
